On March 16, 2019, The Friends of the Seaside Library welcome Rebecca Read who will lead a workshop in Celtic Calligraphy.

In this age of instant electronic communication, writing by hand can be perceived as quaint and obsolete.

Local calligrapher Rebecca Read's worshop will prove nothing could be further from the truth. Calligraphy is experiencing a rebirth and this art form is gaining popularity with crafters and artists alike.

Today's calligraphers are making their own greeting cards, posters, and multi-media art.

The basic skills of calligraphy are surprisingly simple and the supplies needed are reasonably priced.

This two-hour workshop will provide an introduction to the practical applications of Celtic Calligraphy and hands-on instruction of Italic lettering.

Rebecca Read studied graphic design, and typography at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon.  She is currently a studio artist on the north Oregon Coast.

All materials will be provided and the class will be limited to 20 people.

Registration is required.

Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library at (503)738-6742.
