Share an Asian repast at our “Sushi Party” Cooking Class with Jennifer Burns Bright.

This special event is sponsored by The Friends of the Seaside Library and will be held in the Community Room. 

The class will feature cooking instruction and hands-on demonstrations to prepare classic California rolls, spicy tuna, and more using our local catch.

Learn the principles of good sushi, perfect rice, and proper soy sauce.

Practice making rolled sushi and hand rolls with local Dungeness crab, albacore tuna, and pink shrimp.

Learn how to make pickled ginger condiment (gari) and taste-test several wasabi pastes.

There may even be a salad of hand-harvested seaweed or a sustainable substitute for freshwater eel!  

Attendees may be involved in prepping, cooking, and serving these tantalizing items.

Jenifer Burns Bright is a food and travel writer based in Port Orford, Oregon.  She recently retired from teaching at the University of Oregon, where she led a faculty research group in the emerging discipline of food studies.  She holds a PhD from the University of California at Irvine and a Master Food Preserver certification.  Her writing appears in Gastronomica, Oregon Quarterly, NPRs The Salt and Eugene Magazine, among others.

The class is limited to 15 people and registration is required.
