On Saturday, August 19nd the Friends of Seaside Public Library will welcome the Seaside Jazz Trio. The trio consists of saxophonist R.J. Marx, guitarist/vocalist John Orr, and bassist Clarence Robinson. The Seaside Jazz Trio fuses the tradition of beaches and bebop in a style that encapsulates the jazz form from 1930s swing to standards and modern sounds.
Saxophonist R.J. Marx weaves a musical tapestry reflecting swing, bebop and modern jazz, inspired by the giants of the genre. As a founding member of the Katonah Studio Jazz Band, Marx appeared regularly on the concert stage and festivals throughout the metro New York region.
Originally from Michigan, guitarist/vocalist John Orr plays dobro and guitar across many styles. Orr played with Acustica from 2012-16 and has regular performances as a solo jazz guitarist on the North Coast. He appeared as the lead guitarist for the North Coast Blues Band at last year's festival.
Bassist Clarence Robinson recently moved to Seaside from the L.A. area. He has played with some of the greats in the jazz world, including Carlos Garnett, Frank Vicari, Reggie Workman, and others. Originally from New York, his musical journey has included stops at the Manhattan School of Music and California Institute of the Arts in Santa Clarita, California.
