“TO KNOW A PLACE” ART SHOW FEATURING COLLAGES BY LINDSEY AARTS

Beginning September 10th  and running through October 29th the Seaside Public Library will be exhibiting original collages by Astoria based artist Lindsey Aarts. The show is titled, “To Know a Place” and will be presented in the Library foyer and Community Room.

Lindsey Aarts is a transplant from southwest Florida and finds a deep sense of awe and inspiration in the vast Oregon landscape and the beauty of its northernmost coast.  With mixed media collages created from soft washes of watercolor, torn remnants, and textural layers of cut paper, she attempts to capture the character and natural beauty that gives this region its unique identity and sense of place. She truly enjoys the tactile, process-based nature of mixed media collage and appreciates its ability to capture the feeling and spirit of a subject without being held to a specific outcome.

Lindsey Aarts was born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Art History and Museum Studies. After a relocation to Portland in 2009 she moved to Astoria in 2017. Since then, she has shown her work regionally and has had the honor of creating art for local businesses and organizations such as the Astoria Sunday Market and Buoy Beer Company. In 2022 Lindsey was chosen as an Astoria Visual Arts artist in residence. During this six-month residency, she discovered new artistic processes and began her journey to understand art and storytelling as it relates to sense of place.
